Courtesan is a dim sum restaurant and tea room in Brixton that combines dining, eating and entertainment. The Courtesan opened in Brixton 5 years ago and was recently refurbished, it is inspired by the legendary courtesans of ancient China.
Courtesan has recently introduced the world’s first true female spirits list. Each of the 45 drinks on the list has been produced or grown exclusively by women. Hammant the owner of Courtesan said “At Courtesan we have always striven to celebrate talented female producers, chefs and wine-makers. An all-female spirits listing was the next step, and we have compiled a strong and varied list of amazing spirits, all with women at the helm”.
The Courtesan is friendly and sociable, a perfect destination for events or dining in large groups. There is a private area for hire downstairs called The Boudoir.
The dim sum is great for sharing and delicious, the menu has compiled with a sprinkling of sense of humour with some interesting dishes including hot frogs legs (£8.90). The chef team at The Courtesan is also all female.
The cocktails served at The Courtesan are delicious and beautifully made. I tried the courtesan, which is made from cherry, vodka and prosecco. It is a perfect drink to begin your evening and well priced at £8.80. If you love a cigar you should finish your meal with Courtier cocktail which takes like a cigar and is priced at £9.90.
There are regular burlesque evenings and D.J sets at The Courtesan, but with a vintage and classy flair for the intimate setting. Entertainment is on every Friday and Saturday until 2am.
The Courtesan is a fun and delicious restaurant to enjoy a social drink and some food to share.
