Blade is a fantastic salon, cafe and bar in Soho. You can get your hair done whilst sipping on an amazing cocktail and watch your favourite show on Netflix.
Blade is different to a traditional hairdressers in many ways. There is a more relaxed atmosphere, with the feel of a trendy bar, rather than a sterile salon. All stylists are senior level, so there is no hierarchy and nobody is barking orders at apprentices, which has put me off many hairdresser in the past. Blade is open daily until 9pm on weekdays, Saturday 10-8pm and Sunday 12-7pm. You can pop in to get an appointment but you can also book online and through the Blade app.
They are located in Soho on Frith Street in a converted period property across 2 floors. It’s small but they have managed to use the space well. Downstairs there’s a members bar and hair washing area, upstairs there’s a cafe bar area.
Blade caters to both men and women, and they offer precision cutting using scissors and clippers. The international staff are friendly, passionate and achingly cool. The staff can speak a whole host of different languages. A cut and blow dry costs £45 for women and £36 for men.
I went to Blade to try a blow dry with Diego and took a friend with me. I was seated and used the iPad to choose from the drinks menu. You can order a coffee, a cocktail, whiskey or a biodynamic wine whilst you get your hair done. The menu is loaded up on iPads that are available at each hair station. I ordered an old-fashioned to sip whilst my hair got attention, it was one of the best ones I’ve ever had. In fact if you’re a whiskey lover there is an extensive whiskey menu.
Diego chatted to me about what I wanted and I decided on a wavy blow-dry that Diego achieved by twisting the hair into spirals and then separating the twists using his fingers.
I was given a gorgeous head massage as my hair was washed using Sebamed and Schwarzkopf products. Whilst Diego blow dried my hair, I sat and sipped on my cocktail and browsed the internet on the iPad.
I was thrilled with the result of my blow dry, and the effect lasted for a few days. My frizzy hair was transformed into soft curls which Diego told me how to maintain.
It’s a great place to take friend for a treat, or to get your hair done together before you hit the town. It’s also got such a great atmosphere with very talented stylists that you’ll want to return.
After my blow dry was finished, we stayed for an espresso martini before we left. This was equally delicious and brilliant you can get everything in one place.
Regular clients get to apply to become members at the cost of £36 a year. As a member you can visit the bar without having a cut and bring friends. Members get up to a 25% discount on services and get free maintenance treatments, like fringe cuts or short hair styling. There’s currently a waiting list for memberships.
They run regular music, cuts and cocktail evenings.
I actually dislike spending hours at the hair dressers sat staring at myself in the mirror but I loved my experience at Blade. I loved my end result, and I had loads of compliments about my hair over the next few days. I would highly recommend Blade and want to return with my friends before hitting the town, with fabulous hair.
