I have always been a fan of this hidden gem of a bar and restaurant located at the BFI on the Southbank.
The bar is perfect for all occasions from romantic dates and large group celebrations. There are cosy relaxed booths behind the bar or large areas with funky lighting which is great for having a get together with friends, I have personally had a few gatherings here (and a few dates…just a few) at this versatile and funky bar. They are happy to reserve areas for you if you require.
During the day Benugo is also great for drinking coffee whilst getting some work done on your laptop. There is a very creative and inspiring atmosphere, being based in the British Film Institute, with an eclectic crowd.
The bar serves fantastic cocktails as well as a great selection of wine, beers and soft drinks.
There is also a restaurant area, that I recently dined at for the first time and I would certainly return.
The design is modern and sleek but with an informal feel. The food, including the actual dishes are all sourced from the UK . There are a large variety of dishes to order and you are recommended to order around 3 each, similar to tapas. We ordered 4 each and were full up, but clearly we still opted for dessert too!
The menu is seasonal and there is currently a special selection of fig dishes on the menu. We opted for a fig bruschetta which was an interesting combination and delicious. Our favourite dishes were the goats cheese, orange and beetroot salad, the mussels marinere, the chips and the monmouthshire coppa. The dishes are served when they are ready and not all at once. You can order as little or as much as you wish.
The dessserts were delicious, I opted for the pistachio creme brulee which was well priced at £4.50. They also have cheese and biscuits for just £2.50. The food is delicious and great qualiity and you don’t have to spend lots of money to be satisfied.
The restaurant looks very classy but isn’t exclusive and is very friendly. The staff are very helpful and attentive, Lynsey our waitress was brilliant and knowledgable about the menu and gave us good recommendations.
I would highly recommend this restaurant and bar. It is in a superb location on the Southbank and you can pop in for a quick bite to eat or to have a fun evening drinking cocktails relaxing in a comfy armchair.
